Helen's Art

I am an emerging prize-winning artist and receiver of numerous awards at Nepean College in the Advanced Diploma of Fine Arts. I finished my Art Diploma in 2010 and am the winner of the Blue Mountains 2010 Crocket Art Prize.

For the past year I have been travelling extensively throughout NSW with the idea of moving to the country. This series of works was inspired by some of the places where I stayed. My art is representational and symbolic of my love of the Australian bush and the freedom to move. By using mediums such as acrylic paint, collage and charcoal I have tried to capture the essence and mood of these wonderful Australian landscapes.

These five drawings were specifically drawn for this exhibition ("movingplacesmoving") they are also part of an ongoing series called "rare Bird".

The first drawing in the series "Mangrove Melancholy Morning" was inspired by my love of Port Stevens where my family owns a little cottage in the mangroves at Swan Bay. 

The second "Summer Haze at Broken Hill was inspired by a visit to see my son.

One of my daughters moved to Armidale recently and I just had to capture the beauty of the leaves changing colour in autumn, seen in my third drawing "Autumn in Armidale".

My fourth drawing "Hot Day at Crocodile Creek Cairns" captures a time when my husband and I visited Cairns in the extreme heat and we couldn't swim because of the crocodile infested waters.

My wonderful friends lend me their house to stay at Katoomba every year and my favourite time of day is when the sun is going down, which inspired my fifth drawing "sunset in the Mountains".

I hope you enjoy looking at these drawings and you can feel the essence and mood of the landscapes that I am trying to capture.
